'Dunpeckham' 'Landed on the Moon' By Johnny Mack

Johnny Mack was born in Peckham, South-East London an only child to loving but strict parents. Although a bright and shrewd boy, he did not enjoy school - and school did not really enjoy him! He soon found out quickly that he had no choice but to join in the dodgy world of wheeling, dealing, ducking and diving which was all around him, getting involved in armed robbery, violence and drugs. He often tried to make a living in other ways - cab driving, running an illegal club frequented by infamous villains - but the easy money always beckoned as he tried to make a life for himself, his wife Carol and his children. In this, his first book, he tells his story with no holds barred from his childhood and to when reality bites and he must choose between his old life and his family.

Visit a London few people know, peopled by villains, 'faces', violent criminals and addicts. Johnny Mack was once at home there and this is his story.

Peckham in the sixties and seventies was no picnic - cushy it's not. But Johnny Mack knows how to work the system and his highs are high; but his lows are lower than rock bottom.

From mini-cabbing, minding celebrities and totting to violent assaults, robbery and running an illegal drinking club, everything is grist to Johnny's mill and if he ends up doing time, that's just the price he is willing to pay.

But in the end, his family come first, and Johnny leaves his beloved London and makes a life for himself, his beloved Carol and his children on the south coast.

His brutally honest - and funny - story, with no holds barred, will grip you from the very beginning. If he is hard on the men he lived alongside, he is harder on himself; his addictions, his violent rages, his brushes with the law are all here and he makes no excuses.
‘Landed on the Moon’ Back Cover Blurb
Thoroughly embroiled in a life of crime, drug addiction and prison on the mean streets of South London, Johnny Mack decides the only way to turn things around is to ‘do a geographical’ and move to the Isle of Wight.
Although he has a loving marriage and three children, Johnny finds himself an outsider in this new environment and while he succeeds in beating his drug habit, he falls into another addiction instead. The way of life he thought he had left behind continues to exert a strong pull on him, but he knows that the uncertain living of the career criminal is no longer for him.
Finally, Johnny understands that he needs to call upon all his inner strength and resourcefulness to escape the demons that continue to haunt him, but how long will the unstinting love and support of his wife last?

Suggested Press Release
In Dunpeckham Johnny Mack described a life of crime and addiction in South London from which he finds it impossible to escape. In the sequel, Landed on the Moon, he recounts his attempts to break away from this life by moving to the Isle of Wight. Leaving London is easy, but escaping the mindset of criminality and addiction whilst keeping the love and loyalty of his family is the greatest challenge of his life.
